Frequently Enough Asked Questions

Everything you ever wanted to know about Essex, but were afraid to ask.

Interested in Geoph Essex’s work? You can also head to Amazon.com to buy and read his novels, Lovely Assistant and Jackrabbit Messiah, or check out the official Silhouette Universe site.

What the heck is a “Semper Bufo”?

Just two words Geoph first encountered as a kid. Semper Bufo is the family motto of Mister Toad in Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows. It’s Latin for “always toad.” So Toad believes in being the Toadest Toad he can be, at all times, the Quintessential Toad. Geoph Essex is the Geoph Essexest Geoph Essex he can be, at all times, the Quintessential Geoph Essex. He is likely to be substantially more Geoph Essex than you are. But you are almost certainly far you-er than he is—the you-est you. So it’s all good.

Jeff? Or Geoph? Or...?

His name is actually Geoph Essex. For performance purposes (acting and music), it’s Jeff Essex (that’s the name registered with the unions). The story behind the name is long and involved and not really worth going into right now. Though it does feature lasers and a surprising number of giraffes, so it’s pretty exciting. You’re totally missing out.

Where is Geoph Essex from?

His home.

No, where is he from originally?

His birthplace.

Is there merch for sale, or what?

Not...really. ’Cause Geoph is notoriously not one of those mercenary bastards who’s only in it for the money. Which is the primary reason why he doesn’t have quite so much of it. So if you’d like to ask for something and pay for it, he’s open to suggestions.

Meanwhile, though, you can head on over to Amazon.com to buy and read his novels, like Lovely Assistant and Jackrabbit Messiah, or check out the official Silhouette Universe site. If you dig what Geoph does, that’s a great way to give a little back!

So...“Three Wishes”? The comic where the guy argues with the genie?

Yeah, don't get all worked up about it. It’s here, under Sequential Art.

What exactly are Lovely Assistant, Jackrabbit Messiah, and the Silhouette Universe?

Lovely Assistant and Jackrabbit Messiah are the first two published novels set in Geoph Essex’s fictional Silhouette universe. Part comedy, part invented mythology, part adventure, and a lot of oddness—Silhouette’s a place where pretty normal folks take on vast cosmic forces on a rather regular basis.

You can head on over to Amazon.com to buy and read both Lovely Assistant and Jackrabbit Messiah, or check out the official Silhouette Universe site.

Who did this website?

A team of highly trained gnomes with pneumatic technology and really cool sunglasses.

No, just kidding. Geoph did the site himself, of course.

The gnomes mostly just crashed on the foldout, drank grape soda, and maintained their fantasy football teams. Don’t hire them, you’ll only regret it.

Why can’t I see/hear the video and/or audio?

Possibly because your browser or device doesn’t support video/audio in general, or because it doesn’t have the codecs needed to decode these particular media samples in full or in part. It’s okay. You can get in touch or search online for solutions. Go ahead. This’ll all be here when you get back.

While you’re at it, also make sure you’ve got JavaScript working—the site’s much, much cooler with it than without it.

Can I hire Geoph Essex to do freelance or consulting work?

Do you like to pay people fair fees for expertise and great work? The answers to these two questions will be eerily parallel.

Will Geoph hire me?

He’s a one-man operation, so...no. Unless you’re him. In which case, welcome aboard. You start Monday.

What are Geoph’s [rates / hours / turnaround times / political opinions / measurements / whatever]?

There’s no such thing as a “standard” rate—this isn’t a hot dog stand, here. And if it were, it would still depend on what you wanted on them. And in them. Just get in touch to exchange the details of what you need for a quote.

As for the rest of these questions: all of them, fast, he’s against them, metric, exactly. In that order.
